General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Injury or inflammation of the muscles in the chest can occur as a result of persistent coughing. As long as the coughing persists, the pain may also continue. The use of anti inflammatory pain medication can help along with a cough suppressant to reduce the coughing.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Michelle Gibson James
