What Causes Pain In The Chest?

Over the years I have, on occasion, pain at center of chest. First was about 8-10 years ago. I was told to go to the emergency room. It happened again about two years later. Again I was told to go to the emergency room. Both times I was told it was not my heart. I see a cardiologist every year, last time was August. Once again I have mild pain at center of chest. Also, for the last two or three years I have, on occasion, minor swelling in my lower right leg. Above the ankle shoes feel too tight until I loosen the ties a bit. If I take the shoe and sock off, I see no noticeable swelling except for slight sock inprint. Walking generally makes the ankle feel better. Sitting for a long time makes it worse. Seeing famiy doctor on Thursday.

Hi,

Pain in the chest as you mentioned can be due to either gastroesophageal reflux disease or acid reflux from stomach which can cause pain in the centre part of the chest. It can also be due to anxiety as well. Problems around the heart can also cause.

So for lower leg and foot is concerned it can be due to the problem in veins from prolonged sitting in one posture or tight clothing blocks blood flow. As you walk the blood circulation increases and it disappears. It can be due to varicose veins which also has an effect on the heart.

I suggest you get examined by a physician properly. Your proper treatment needs case history, examination and you may need some tests to be done.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
