What Causes Pain In The Ear After Partial Parotidectomy?

I had a benign tumor and partial Parotidectomy 7 days ago and I am having severe right inner ear pain that is throbbing, sharp and dull intermittently. It feels like fluid is behind my ear drum, but no drainage coming from my ear. I am without a fever, incision is clean and dry. Drain was removed on day 2 and I have been using massage as well as alternating cool and warm compress to stimulate circulation. Tylenol and Motrin have been my only pain meds, but the pain has become unbearable. Please advise!

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain pain in ear after partial parotidectomy that is done just 7 days back, can be due to a normal process of inflammation that occurs after any surgical procedure..
As the area of parotid gland is close to ear that is infront of ear therefore pain originating from the parotid gland is causing pain in the ear and in case if pain is severe there is also a probability of infection at the surgical site..
First of all if pain is severe then you can take higher painkillers like Tramadol for relieving pain..
You should also consult your treating surgeon and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation , x ray and blood test can be done to rule out the cause of pain and treatment can be done accordingly..
In case if there is infection a course of oral and injectable antibiotics and painkillers can help in relieving the condition..
Also once an ear examination can be done to check for infection in ear so that if it is the cause, it can also be treated accordingly..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
