What Causes Pain In The Ear And Jaw On The Left Side?

I am having pain in my ear and jaw and left side of my mouth. It started yesterday and it seems that if I try to open my mouth real wide, it really hurts. Are you able to provide a prescription if that is what is needed? I have a very limited income.

Hi......
Welcome to HCM..

So sorry to hear about your problem and will try to resolve it..

As per your complain pain on opening the mouth and also pain in ear and jaw is related to your jaw joint..
As the jaw joint is close to the ear therefore pain originating from jaw joint can be radiated to ear..
It can however due to mild injury to the jaw joint that can be caused by trauma, biting something hard or opening the mouth too wide..
As of now you can take anti inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen and also take muscle relaxants like Tizanidine..
In case if it does not improve in 4-5 days then you will have to consult an Oral Physician and get a Panoromic x ray done to rule out the exact cause of the problem and will be treated accordingly..
Treatment can include painkiller and muscle relaxant combination along with Physiotherapy, warm or cool compress depending on the cause and mouth guards along with soft diet..
Avoid opening the mouth too wide..

Hope this helps..

Regards.
