Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am 2 1/2 years out of treatment for 4th stage head and neck cancer. HPV 16 + , right tonsil and 1 lymph affected. About two weeks ago I started experiencing right ear pain again. I also had a slight sinus infection. Tonight I could feel my submandible glands, one on each side of jawline. I had a radical neck dissection on the right side. And 30 rounds of radiation to bilateral neck, mouth and throat. Should I be feeling any glands on that side ?? I m worried my cancer may be back. Should I be able to feel those glands. I can only feel them when my head is tilted downward and they hurt. Please help I have no insurance and haven t had a scan or follow up since march of 2016
Good morning. I have read your case history and most likely it could either be infection or return of cancer. Although u have radical neck dissection in right side, there is still possibility that some gland is left. So I would like you to consult your doctor specifically to rule out the return of cancer as you have previous history. Otherwise it can be due to ear or dental infection. but now the priority for you is to get the scan done and followup with your doctor for cancer. Hope it will help.
