General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

It is possible that the pain may be due to inflammation of the tendon that inserts to the bone in that area or inflammation of the bony area itself. The shooting aspect of the pain may mean that the nerves are involved, this can be temporary and may resolve as the inflammation resolves.

Main treatment may consist of rest (need to reduce the use for 1 to 2 weeks) and the use of anti inflammatory medication such as Ibuprofen, Naproxen, Cataflam, Celebrex, etc. A warm compress to the area may also help as well.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
