Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My husband, age 53, has developed pain upon contact with the point of both elbows. No bruising is present. No bites, boils or infection points are present. This has been happening for 3 months. Skin appears normal. The condition is getting worse. How should we proceed?
It is most likely a condition called bursitis which may be caused by trauma or by any other irritation of a cubital bursa, a small fat pad in the elbow.
At this point, you should rest with an elbow, apply ice, take nonsteroid painkilllers and elevate your arm and put elastic compress.
It should lead to symptom improvement within 12 hours. Later, if there is no improvement, it would be advisable to do xrays and see if fracture exist.
Also, hematoma or seroma accumulation may persist and then elbow function and fluid evacuation should be done by a doctor.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Ivan R. Rommstein, General Surgeon
