Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Pain In The Groin Area After Prolonged Prednisone Intake?
Severe pain in right groin, pain walking and just moving leg and putting weight on it. X-ray shows no fracture. I have long term use of prednisone for arthritis. Ortho. doctor is sending me for MRI to see if it may be a vascular condition. I cannot remember exactly what it is called. But he said he has seen it before with patients on long term use of prednisone. Was wondering if you might know what this might be and how to spell it. He said this vascular condition will show the same symptoms. This is going into the fifth week of this. Has felt like a pelvic fracture, which I have had on the other side. Thanks.
Long term use of steroids is considered to be major factor of avascular necrosis of femur head due to microscopic level disturbances of circulation and immune system. You must undertake an MRI of the pelvis at immediate instance without delay and prevent further damage to the hip bones. I would be eager to assist you further after the MRI plates are available with you.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
