Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Pain In The Groin Area And Swollen Lymph Nodes?
My husband is 50 years old and had an ultrasound because of pain in his lower right groin area and was told he had swollen lymph nodes. He has always had night sweats but we have noticed the night they have gotten quite a bit worse in the last few months. He has not lost any weight but does seem more tired and irritable than usual. The doc is planning a cat scan next. What would the cat scan show that the ultra sound didn t show and is it common for a 50 year old to develop cancer in the lymph glands?
Lymphomas are not common, but swollen lymph nodes should be examined further. If he has always had night sweats, and the lymph nodes are tender, it is not suggestive of cancer, but rather an inflammatory state, e.g. infection in his leg or pelvic area.
A CAT scan enables a full-body examination of lymph nodes (more or less) while ultrasound is good for detecting only superficial lymph nodes.
Hope I have answered your query.
