What Causes Pain In The Hips On The Right Side?

My right hip has been hurting. Feels like maybe a muscle. When I lifted my left leg up to scratch it I got a terrible pain in my right hip and now it is very sore. It had been hurting off and on for a month or more. Could it just be a pulled muscle or something more? Thanks

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
Chronic pain in hip may be due to bony abnormalities-abnormal growth or due to repeated injury to muscles and ligaments.
It is advisable to have a MRI scan of the hip joint to rule out underlying abnormalities.
