What Causes Pain In The Jaw After An Eardrum Injury?

I punctured my ear drum a few days ago with a q-tip. It bled the first day, but now I am experiencing jaw pain when swallowing , yawning or stretching mount when eating. It's 2 AM and I can't sleep. Will call my PCP in the morning when office opens. What can I do to get some relief now. I took Aleve and put a heat pack on ear, jaw and neck.

Hi..
Thanks for the query..

Pain in jaw while swallowing, yawning and opening the mouth wide are commonly due to jaw joint related problem however if there is any problem with the jaw joint like perforation then it can also cause jaw pain radiating from the ear..

So my suggestion is to consult an Emergency room and get checked..

You should get your ear examined and also you need to get a Panoromic x ray done to examine the jaw joints..

For now Aleve is appropriate but if pain is severe you can take higher painkillers like Tramadol..

You can also use analgesic eardrops..

Hope this helps..

Regards..
