Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, I have had some joint pain in my fingers and 1 knee for few years, it s not too bad. I have some pain in my hands if they get too cold. I often feel like I want to stretch my hands and fingers like they are slightly stiff. Tonight while making stir fry after chopping a lot of vegetables while stirring my right pointer finger went completely stiff from the joint at the base of the finger. I massaged it and continued. It happened again. minutes later the same thing happened to my left pinky finger. I m going to go to the Dr soon and I assume it s some kind of arthritis.
What you are experiencing can be an early sign of rheumatoid arthritis/osteoarthritis/Raynauds phenomenon.
If I were your treating doctor,I would recommend, -Investigations needed for diagnosis is blood for RA factor, antinuclear antibodies,Xray joint. -Anti inflammatoray analgesics like acetaminophen or ibuprofen twice a day with antacids for couple of days. -Application of warm compress over the stiffed joint for 15-30 minutes. -Perform some muscle relaxation and stretching exercising around joints like closing and releasing your fist. You may take help of physical therapist for it. -Avoid smoking. If symptoms donot lessen in 2 weeks ,visit to rheumatologist may solve the issue.
Hope I answered your query. Further query is welcome
