What Causes Pain In The Kneecap While Bending It?

The interior area right under and alongside of my left kneecap is painful. I recently started a walking program and it did not hurt until a month in. Does not hurt to put weight on it but is painful to the touch and when trying to bend it. Do I need a certain type of brace or support. Don t want to stop walking. Thank you

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

A brace may be helpful along with a compress and anti-inflammatory medications such as Naproxen or Ibuprofen or Cataflam.

The warm compress can be applied 2 to 4 times a day for 10 to 15 mins.

It would be best to rest it or reduce activity that aggravates for at least a week. You can consider doing activities such as swimming for that time or upper body strength training.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Michelle Gibson James,
