I ve lead an active life (sports) and for past decade, not so much do to knee instability..........my rheumatologist belives it is torn meniscus. because it s been on-going do you think surgery will fix it, or is it too late (I m 57)?

What Causes Pain In The Knees?
Hello, As per your history, it may be meniscus or ligament injury. To confirm, kindly do MRI knee joint after orthopedic consultation. In that case surgery will help to fix it. Anyway these are avasular parts so It s not too late. Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Regards, Dr. Shyam B. Kale, General & Family Physician
