Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My husband (59 years old) has had trouble with knee pain off and on for a few years now. Earlier today as he was getting out of the car, he felt a pop at the back of his left knee and now it s extremely sore. What would that be?? Is there anything he can do other than Advil (which he s already taken) to get relief?

Patients visit my clinic with knee pain. I advise them as :
1. Your husband has knee pain for few years. It is unclear what is the cause. You have to do the assessment by getting it thoroughly examined by orthopaedic surgeon. You may need to do X-Ray/ other investigations.
2. Please get his Uric acid levels checked. High Uric acid levels sometimes cause joint pains. If the levels are more, he may need medicines to reduce it.
3. Please check his Vit D3, and calcium levels.
4. You are right, he needs more than pain killers for his knee, as it is an old problem. Please consult Orthopaedic surgeon for early diagnosis.
Please get the check-up done early for a speedy recovery.
Best wishes for good health.
