What Causes Pain In The Left Leg While Suffering From Shingles?
I am 54 and on 1-12-17 realized I had shingles went to doctor 1-13-17 and received a week of Acyclovir 400mg 3 times a day. I no longer have the blisters or raised rash. The area is still shows slight rash but is tender. Should I go back to my doctor. My left leg hurts but not sure if it is because of the shingles

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi,
Shingle is a disease of nerves &affects the skin around the nerve. Post herpes pain is a common finding after the main infection is treated. It subsides over a long period.
Till it needs treatment with drugs like a ti inflammatory pain drug like Ibuprofen, nerve pain medicine like Gabapentine & antidepressants as per need. Please consult a neuro physician.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Vasudha Jayant Athavale, General & Family Physician
