Hi, Our son is 7 years old and has 1 positive test for Autoimmune disorder. 5 times over the last 6 months he has complained of pain in his feet legs when he walks. During these times he generally runs a low grade temp. Our sons pediatrician has suggested possible juvenile rheumatoid arthritis but wants him to see a specialist, which we cant get an appointment to see for 2 more weeks. Our son has been running a temp of 100 to 101.5 for the last 7 days, treated with childrens motrin and childrens tylenol . The fever will not break, he has been back to see the pediatrician who has run a dozen blood tests that have come back negative. He was diagnosed with pneumonia today and put on antibiotics. his mom and I are concerned about the constant fever and the pediatrician wanting it to run its course. should we just take him to the emergency room at Childrens memorial Hospital in Chicago or are we over reacting?
Causes of your difficulties may be neuropathy or ischemic issues. Neuropathic are seen in diabetics or injury of spine nerves.
If this is not your case then these symptoms are indicating circulatory problems in legs which are common in this age and there may be present atherosclerosis that obstructs blood vessels and causes pain and blisters to form.
You should do Doppler ultrasound of the leg or CT angiography to rule out such obstructive changes and then it can be treated properly by medications or by surgical and radiological procedures.
Also, you should have Aspirine and have elastic stockings applied, and should avoid cold environment and long walks.
In most cases it can be managed with medications but sometimes surgery may be required in severe cases.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
