What Causes Pain In The Legs?

Hi doctor my daughters law has been suffering with a painful leg right up to the thigh She has given up smoking for 6 months and this seems to happen after her giving up smoking her doctor says its siatica do you think it s needs investigating more thanks janelle

Hello,

I will also like to know the exact location of pain (thigh, hip, low back), or any radiation. If yes, the trajectory as all these are needed to confirm the diagnosis of sciatica. Sciatica can however, causes leg pain. Other causes may include: hip/lower back osteoarthritis, mechanical pain. The diagnosis of sciatica is clinical but if pain is severe, your doctor may request for x-ray, MRI or CT scan, electromyography.

Treatment options may include: different lines of pain drugs depending on pain intensity, myorelaxants, steroid shots occasionally, physiotherapy and surgery in some cases. Just see your doctor for evaluation and management.
