What Causes Pain In The Lower Abdomen After Insertion Of Mirena IUD?
Hello, I had the Mirena IUD inserted today and have been having very sharp pains in my lower left abdomen and also numbness in my left leg as well. I also have pain on the left side of my groin. The pain comes and goes and I tend to feel better when I lay on my right side. I have no pain whatsoever on my right side. I am also feeling nauseous. Is there a problem with my IUD insertion? Thank you for the help
Mirena IUD insertion is simple & women who have children find it less painful than women who do not have children.
IUD perforations are rare, but if you are very uncomfortable & IUD is hurting you too much, contact your doctor immediately. Get checked physically. When IUD gets expelled it causes increased pain & cramping. For pain relief, you can take Ibuprofen or Acetaminophen.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
