Hi,

Emergency contraceptive pill, when taken within 72 hours of unprotected intercourse, should cause breakthrough bleeding just like your periods within 5 to 7 days of its intake. You may experience certain side effects like pain abdomen or bloating after its intake.

If bleeding doesn't happen by 10 days, you need to take urine pregnancy test and consult Obstetrician for clinical evaluation and appropriate management. Failure rate of such pills to prevent pregnancy is about 10%.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ashakiran S,
