What Causes Pain In The Lower Abdomen And Buttocks?

Hi, I was walking down hall at work when I started experiencing lower abdominal pain. It is not a sharp pain. It seems the pain is in my lower back, buttocks radiating down into the back of thighs. I do have a history of back pain and would would also experience sharp pains in my groin/pubic area when walking. I am very concerned now that the symptoms could be do to another underlying condition and not the back. I would appreciate any guidance.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

The pain in lower abdomen and buttocks with radiation to back of thighs suggest possible nerve compression over lumbar spine region. I recommend thorough clinical examination and MRI as per its evaluation.

Thanks.
Dr Purva
