My daughter is 29 years old and 13 weeks pregnant. She has experienced a few sharp pains on her lower right side recently. they have come and gone. Now she is experiencing a more consistent ache in the same area and a headache. She will call the nurse hotline when she gets home. What could this be?

Hello
Thanks for writing to us.

Though some abdominal pain during pregnancy is normal
As your organs are constantly shifting, because of the expansion of uterus day by day and your ligaments are also stretching. This is the common cause of pain in lower abdomen during pregnancy.
However I would suggest you to see your doctor for further investigations. As sometimes abdominal pain during pregnancy can be much more serious (though much rarer).

Thanks
Dr. Tripat Mehta
