What Causes Pain In The Lower Abdomen?

I woke up with pain on both sides of my lower abdomen and felt like I wouldn t be able to support my stomach. I have had mucusy bowel movements that have been chunky. I am moving very slowly and have been lying down for parts of the day. I feel the pain when I change from standing to sitting and vice versa, but don t feel it once I m settled. I have had very little appetite. My husband and I both had a meal that gave us severe heartburn, just a club sandwich and potato salad, he ended up having lower back rib pain and threw up the next day and has been okay since. Food poisoning?

Hi,

It is not food poisoning. It can be ulcerative colitis. Both should go for a liver function test. You should take bland diet. Avoid rich and spicy food. It can be colitis or maybe amoebiosis. Should be given a course of anti amoebic drug.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ashok Kumar Dash,
