What Causes Pain In The Lower Abdomen?

Hi, I am 20 yrs old female. I have a mild to moderate pain in my lower abdomen started out just on left side and now pain is on both right and left. If I move a certain way my right side upper back has a stabbing feeling of pain. Should I go to an emergency room? or wait to see if pain continues.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
Experiencing mild to moderate pain in the lower abdomen could be due to infection in the gastrointestinal tract.
Appendicitis needs to be ruled out by clinical examination.
Also, it would be better for you to take an ultrasound scan of the abdomen and then consult Surgeon for clinical evaluation and appropriate management.
Hope the information provided helps.
All the best.
Regards,
Dr.Ashakiran.S.,
