What Causes Pain In The Lower Back And Hip?

Hi Doctor, I have been having pain in my lower back and right hip for years. Now the pain s constant. When I walk my hip hurts really bad. It feels like both my legs are going to just give way because sometimes both hips hurt, but only when I walk or stand for a short while. Oh, I have deep arch in my back and my lower back has been painful from when I was very young. I am 58 now. What do you think I might have? Thanks, Willie-Gloria

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi
Thanks for posting on HCM
Lower back and hip pain radiating to legs may be caused by many medical conditions. Some possible causes may include:
-Lower back osteoarthritis
-Degenerative disc disease
-Disc herniation
-Sciatica
-And others
To effectively treat this condition, the exact cause will be very important.I will suggest you see the Doctor and if possible, a Rheumatologist for examination and a lower back x-ray or a scan.
No matter the cause, different treatment options may be exploited.Treatment options may include: different lines of pain drugs depending on pain intensity, myorelaxants, steroids ocasionally, physiotherapy and surgery in some cases.I will suggest you take a pain drug like aceclofenac and a myorelaxant like miorel. Then see a Rheumatologist for evaluation and other treatment options.
Hope this will help
Wish you good health
