I have pain in lower right back above the waist about 6 inches. Comes and goes past 3 months. I ve had kidney stones in the past and wonder if it could be a kidney issue? No blood in urine, I m 68 years old. Pain is about a 5. Do X-ray S show stones. No fever or nausea. The pain starts when I wake up. Lessens when laying dow. Joe

Hi,

Although the lower back pain can have a number of causes as per the site and the previous history of renal stones make renal stones the likely diagnosis. I would suggest you to get X-ray KUB done.

Maximum renal stones can be detected by this, however even if the findings are negative, you can work with your healthcare provider to get intravenous pyelography or CT scan done.

For pain management, you can take Camylofin+paracetamol or narcotic medications for which you may need a prescription from the treating physician. Take plenty of fluids.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
