What Causes Pain In The Lower Back Upon Standing?

When I stand up from sitting down it takes me a few minutes to get standing up straight due to lower back pain. Once I am standing it hurts when I put weight on my right foot and when I turn my head to left or right I have extreme lower back pain. I need a quick fix, so I can return to work on Monday.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

I understand your concern.

The pain you feel on your lower back when you stand up from sitting down is due to spondyloarthrosis. The inflammation of intervertebral disc might cause pressure to the nerve traveling to your leg.

For a quick fix, you should:
- take anti-inflammatory meds you find otc like ibuprofen or ketoprofen
- apply analgesic cream locally
- physiotherapy can help
- apply warm clothing locally

For a long-term fix, you should consult further with neurologist and orthopedic specialist and run X-ray of lower back.

Wish fast recovery.
