What Causes Pain In The Lungs Radiating To The Body?

Hi My mother is being treated for TB. Her cough is on and off. Her medicines seems to be working slowly, x ray showed improvement. Last 2/3 days she has been feeling weak, doesn t feel like eating. All those early symptoms are coming back and a while bavk she complained of unbearable pain in her lungs which seemed to spread to the rest of the body. She forced herself to throwup to fee light and saw a bit of blood in the vomit. Is the blood bit something to worry about?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
Thank you for your query.
Yes, the blood in the vomit is something to worry about.

Medications for Tuberculosis can cause loss of appetite, liver failure and gastritis.
Pain in the lungs could be due to a collapsed lobe or irritation of the pleura (the lining around the lungs).

I recommend :
- a physician and gastroenterologist consult
- a CT scan of the chest to check for pleural involvement and collapsed lung lobes
-blood tests (liver and kidney function tests, clotting profile).
-an endoscopy if stomach ulcers are suspected.

-change in dosage of medications or medication itself if she is not able to tolerate symptoms.

Avoid caffeine, sugary, carbonated drinks and spicy food.
Ask her to have smaller but frequent meals. Eating is necessary as she needs her strength.

Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is anything else I can help you with.
Wish you both good health
