What Causes Pain In The Lungs While Bathing With Hot Water?
When I take a hot bath, within minutes my lungs hurt very badly. Being an asthmatic I have had numerous chest colds and bronchitis and to me it feels like how my lungs feel while I have a cough or bronchitis. It takes about 20 minutes for my lung function to return to normal. I really find baths relaxing but I cannot stand to take one for more than five minutes before my lungs feel like they re on fire. Any clues as to why?

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi,
You are an asthmatic... if it's long-running & has caused stress to heart...(cor pulmonale)... you can get the symptoms following sudden exposure to hot water due to stress to the heart.
Please get the hot water with a gradual rise in temperature. Avoid/restrict bronchodilator inhaler like Asthaline & consult your chest specialise earliest.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Vasudha Jayant Athavale,
