What Causes Pain In The Middle Back On The Left Side?

I am a 64 male and in good health. Something new for me. I have a pain in my middle left back . A lot better today but would loose my breath from the pain yesterday. Different movements or deep breath could bring it on. At one point I had to stay leaning over to recover from an attack. A hot bath seemed to help. I have flem. I am curious what it could be. A lung pain or a muscle back pain? thanks

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

Most probably it is due to spine related problems like a prolapsed disc or nerve compression.

As a first line management, you can take analgesics like Paracetamol or Aceclofenac for pain relief.

If symptoms persist better to consult an orthopedician and plan for an MRI scan.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain,
