What Causes Pain In The Mouth After A Dental Procedure?

Hi, I had a tooth filled a month ago and the cavity was in a tooth that had a cap on it and the cavity was near the gum line, so it was obviously a tender area. My dentist obviously numbed the area first and in doing so, he hit a nerve three times. And I thought I was going to hit the ceiling. I have had pain on that side of my mouth the first two weeks every day. It subsided some, but it flared up again and now it hurts even worse from the front bottom tooth . . . . which is one of the areas when I got the novocaine and the pain shot through to that area when the needle hit the nerve . . . . all the way back to the last molar on the right side. I have had a problem in the past with TMJ and the last time I had dental work done, I had a tooth issue and the dentist said I needed a root canal, but the pain went away. I went to an ENT doctor because I had some ear pain and she said I needed to go to a doctor for my TMJ again. Now I m not sure if I should go back to my dentist or go to a doctor for TMJ. Any suggestions?
