What Causes Pain In The Neck After A Rotator Cuff Surgery?

I had surgery back in October for a left torn labrum and spurs in the rotator cuff. My pain radiates to what appears to be the side of my neck as well. Since the surgery and the post-op PT, my intense pain persists, even continuing to disturb my sleep. I ve had Decadron injections to both shoulders, as the same symptoms are read and diagnosed from MRI in the right shoulder. My orthopedic surgeon wants to perform the same surgery on the right shoulder. Needless to say, I have serious reservations about this. Any recommendations? Thank you for your consideration.

Hello,

Rotator cuff surgery usually won't cause pain in the neck unless an injury to the cervical nerves or cervical muscle spasm.

Until examination is done it is difficult to say what it is. Avoid elevation of the neck with pillows, use a tablet. Aceclofenac and Paracetamol twice a day for five days.

Get it done MRI spine then consult your neurosurgeon he will examine and treat you accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
