What Causes Pain In The Ribs While Breathing With Fever?
My son is 12 and he had fever of 102.4 all weekend. Md gave amoxicillin for strept on Monday. Sore throat , head ache, stomach ache , vomit x 1. After 2nd pill fever broke. He went back to school today. About 8 pm , he started complaining of pain behind the lower ribs. Hurt to breath and fever is back at 100. Strept fast test was negative. They sent it off and it is due back tomorrow.
Noted the history related to your son of 12 and understood the concerns. Since Antibiotic Amoxicillin helped to break the fever this looks to be a bacterial infection that has traveled to lower lungs. This might have affected the lungs, pleura and nearby structures giving the recurrence of fever and pain in lower rib area. Hence I would advise for him the following: Consult the Doctor again for clinical evaluation and have proper investigations like X-ray of chest. Tests of blood may indicate the possibility of raised white cell count. Continue the proper antibiotic, can give an anti-inflammatory medications. Steam inhalation. Additional antibiotic, symptomatic and supportive management as needed. CT scan of chest may be necessary in selected cases helps for the detailed study.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
