Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Two weeks ago I noticed a pain in my right arm/armpit. It felt as if I had used my armpit to hold something for a long period of time like an umbrella or something hard. My armpit felt kind of sore. It hurt to reach to the front or back and it really hurt to reach up to the sky with my right arm. It felt like there was a tight vein or something restricting my reach because there was a pulling sensation through my arm and in my armpit. When I touched my armpit I could feel like a thin flosslike strand. If I reached to the sky I could even see the strand in my armpit when I looked in the mirror. I did research, and a few concerning things like blood clots and cancer popped up so I went to the ER for an evaluation. The DR there didn t seem impressed. He told me it was swollen lymph nodes and put me on antibiotics (keflex), a steroid (prednisone), and told me to place a warm compress on it. No images were taken. No blood work. I followed up with my family DR two days later and she pretty much agreed. She also told me to get baby aspirin and a probiotic. It s been a week. I m almost done my antibiotic. I don t really feel a change. I was excercising today on my stationary bike and not even 10 minutes in checked out under my arm and the floss strand was bulging. I want to say it s a vein but I honestly don t know. It looks as if it follows the same path as a vein. My anxiety is super high. I m trying my best to stay optimistic. I m just exhausted from worrying about it, all I want to do is sleep. I don t have a history of cancer. I have no blemishes in my armpit area. No shaving mishaps. Someone mentioned a deodorant reaction but I haven t changed my deodorant. I haven t been sick. No strenuous excercise. I just want this bulging tight strand to go away. I have been doing lymphatic massage daily almost all day warm compress and light excercise. I just don t know what to do. Something isn t right though

Hello, Consult a physician and get evaluated. If symptoms persist you can take an ultrasound scan. As of now analgesics like acetaminophen can be taken. Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Take care Regards, Dr. Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
