What Causes Pain In The Right Heel?

Hi, I have been having a pain in my right heel for about a year now. I can t walk on it to long or much and if I touch the inside of the heel it hurts so bad. When I get up in the morning, it hurts to walk on it and after a day at work and I am in bed, I will strech my foot and I can feel the nerve hurting. The doctors say I have foot problem but I use arch supports for a long time now. I am tired of my doctor telling me there is nothing wrong and I am normal! If there is nothing wrong I would not be calling or seeing them, therefor I am NOT normal.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
Thank you for your query.
Based on your symptoms, I would like to check for bony spurs.

These are bony outgrowths for the bone. And is caused due to injury, inflammation or strain on feet.
These outgrowths can compress surrounding structures and cause pain (usually first thing in the morning as it compresses all over again after a night's rest)

I recommend :
-orthopedic consult.
-x-rays of the foot
-blood test (complete blood count, calcium and phosphorus levels)
-lifestyle modifications (well cushioned and supportive footwear; avoid standing for too long ; massage you feet and heals before bed every night to improve circulation and lessen the consequences of the compression ; quit smoking if you do.)

Most times these measure help tremendously. However, if you don't get relief, you may need injections to relieve the pain. Surgical removal may be necessary if it is too big.

Hope you feel better soon. Wish you good health
