Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello, I am 62 years old female. I have started to feel pain starting from my right hip to knee joint on the outer thigh. Sometimes the pain travels to the ankle. Some times I wake up with pain at night. What is it? What should I do? I walk 4 to 5 miles everyday at slo speed.
Pain in hip radiating down to knees/ankles could be due to hip problems or referred pain from spine problems. Osteoarthritis, slipped disc, osteoporosis can cause such pain. Further investigations like x-ray of hip and spine, MRI spine are required to confirm diagnosis.
Please be advised to follow up with an orthopedician for further evaluation and management.
Meanwhile, you can take Ibuprofen (if not allergic) for pain.
Hope I was able to help you Please address further questions here Regards, Dr.Lekshmi
