Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I injured my shin last week. Although I never saw a black and blue mark, I felt pain that was almost the entire front of my leg. I had difficulty walking down steps, and had to be careful to wear a flat shoe. It was even tender when my bed sheets were against the leg. The painful area itself seems to be getting smaller, but yesterday I started having some swelling in the ankle. Should I be concerned or is this a very normal reaction of the healing process? Thank you!
Since you had a trivial trauma following which you will definitely have the blood clot which looks cyanosed it that part for some time and then the inflammatory mediators are released to cause the disease process.
There will be healing granulation tissue that develops after some time which looks like swelling and it shrinks to normalize. This is the normal healing process happens anywhere in the body is injured.
If we need to accelerate the process then we can supplement with anti-inflammatory medication like paracetamol and ibuprofen which proven to accelerate the process of healing.
So, if you are really in trouble with this process then get a prescription for the above drugs in the nearest hospital.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Archana
