Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Pain In The Shoulder On The Right Side?
My right shoulder has been causing me pain for the past five days. It aches all the time but pain increases with any movement. I ran errands today and driving the car has exacerbated everything. It also wakes me up from sleep. I have not fallen or done anything different than my regular daily activities.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
A shoulder pain caused without any injury can be due to a number of reasons like overuse, strain or sleeping on side. It can also be caused due to a pinched nerve.
The only way to diagnose the cause is a thorough physical examination. Your physician may also advise an X-ray or MRI depending on the result of your physical examination.
Meanwhile, you should rest your arm and avoid doing any activities which will put too much strain on that arm. Apply the ice pack and take an over the counter painkiller like Advil.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Nazma.Amman
