What Causes Pain In The Shoulders, Arms And Knees?

I am taking 80 mg Atorvastatin. My cholesterol numbers have improved a great deal while on this medication. Unfortunately I am having extreme muscle and joint pain in my shoulders, arms and knees. I have also noticed a decrease in urine outflow. Should I request that my doctor change my medication? Are there other statins that work as well as Atorvastatin? Thank you for your time and consideration.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Good afternoon. I have read your concern. muscle pain are one of the side effects of atorvastatin due to myositis and rarely renal dysfunction. I would suggest that you should stop the medication , go to your doctor. Do your blood test esp Creatinine phosphokinase levels (CPK) which shows muscle injury, serum creatinine, urine analysis and urine microscopy. If there are some changes in blood and urine tests , the doctor will change your medication.
I hope this will help you.
