Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Pain In The Shoulders While Suffering From Bronchitis?
My 84 year old mother was diagnosed about a week ago with bronchitis. She was given an antibiotic. She is on the phone with me now she is saying that her back has begun to hurt across the shoulders and midway down the back and even the neck area. She thought she was getting better and now she started coughing again, and nose started to run again. We are concerned that if might be pneumonia. Does this sound like it could be? Should she been seen right away in the ER, or wait until tomorrow to go to an Instant care facility?
Regarding your concern, I would explain that her symptoms could be related to a worsening of bronchitis. Possible pneumonia or an allergic reaction can not be excluded too. For this reason, I recommend consulting wit her attending physician for a physical exam, a chest X ray study and pulmonary function tests, coupled with some blood lab tests (complete blood count, PCR, ESR).
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Ilir Sharka,
Cardiologist
