What Causes Pain In The Side Of Neck?

Hi, I am Tonny I am 24 years old and since this morning, when I laugh or apply force to do something, I feel a pain on the right side of my neck, which seems to be coming from a vein. I m not too sure what causes that, I m worried if it is high blood pressure or just a muscular pain which might reflect as being a pain from the vein? I would appreciate help on that. Thanks.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
I read through your question. Symptoms of high blood pressure will include headache, light headedness and more severe forms include visual distrubances and breathing difficulty etc. Pain in one side of the neck on certain activity is not a sign of hypertension rather a sign of local problem like muscle spasm. When people say they have neck pain which started after waking up from sleep, it is most likely that you slept in a different position which your neck muscles weren't happy about. So relax and try to avoid activities that hurt you. You can also use pain killer gels (diclofenal gels or sprays) to get instant relief. If it doesn't get better with this, you may consult a local doctor to rule out other rare things.
Regards
DR. Jeffrey
