Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Pain In The Sinus After A Root Canal Treatment?
I had a root canal last week on tooth 3 (upper right). Dentist said tooth was infected but he cleaned it out. Excessive pain in tooth and entire right side of head persisted. Went back and prescribed amoxicillian for 10 days. Pain has improved dramatically though still having sinus pain/pressure. Yesterday I noticed an unpleasant smell when I blow my nose, spit, have a bowel movement, etc. Nasal leakage from right nostril only, yellow in color. Could it be a staph infection?
Hello Dear. You might have developed sinusitis. Please consult an ENT surgeon. You may need to take antibiotics for another 10 days or so if the sinusitis still persists. Sometimes the doctor may prescribe higher antibiotic like Amoxclav or Taxim.
You can also do few home remedies. Warm, moist air may help. You can use a vaporizer, or you can inhale steam from a pan of warm water by adding some vicks vaporub. Also do saline nasal wash.
It doesnot matter whether its staph or any other bacteria. You take antibiotics for 10 days and all the bacteria will clear up. In case the doctor needs to find out the organism he/she may ask for culture of nasal swab and see for growth of any particular bacteria.
Hope i have answered your question. Feel free to contact me if you have any more questions. I ll be glad to help you. All the best With warm regards Dr Sanjay Kini
