Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have tailbone pain that s worse when sitting , I have not injured my tailbone(trauma) , it has been going on for about a month now . I have no rash or bruising. I do not sit for long periods at a time . I m not over weight . what is most likely the cause of my pain? also I have no other signs or symptoms .
Tail bone pain can occur due to sitting on an uncomfortable hard surface for prolonged period of time. Fall, trauma, arthritis can also cause such pain. A Xray is needed to rule out possible fracture or arthritis. You can take Advil to 400 mg up to 4 times daily for pain. Apply ice on the area of pain. Make sure to sit on a comfortable chair and maintain good posture. If there is no fracture, physical therapy to strengthen muscles around the tail bone is recommended.
Please be advised to follow up with your primary care provider for further evaluation and management
