Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have a very tender gland real deep in my throat that leads up into my ear. It doesn t hurt all the time and my throat doesn t hurt at all. When feeling the throat it is sore to the touch. I had a right thyroidectomy several years ago and that is the side that hurts. Should I go see my doctor?
The symptoms are typical of what we call a sore throat.
It is nothing but a bacterial infection of the throat and it will respond well to antibiotics.
Consult a general practitioner and start a short course of antibiotics preferably Amoxiclav. Do warm saline gargles for symptomatic relief.
Generally, the symptoms will settle in a couple of days with conservative management if symptoms persist better to consult an ENT specialist and plan for a throat swab.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain,
General & Family Physician
