What Causes Pain In The Toes Upon Movement After An Injury?

I was going up the stairs until I fell. I somehow hurt two of my toes. They hurt so much that I was unable to move it back or forth, until I put BENGAY PAIN RELIEVING CREAM , multiple bandages, (to keep it straight it s NOT bleeding) and a cold wet napkin on my toes. After I did this I simply rested in bed. Now (1/2 an hour later) it still hurts and I CAN move it forward but NOT back without it paining yet. I still CANT walk with pressure on those toes. My toes currently arent brused nor swelled. What I want to know is are my toes just sprained or did I break/fracture a bone? Also I need an estimate of how long it s going to stay like this? With gratitude, Kushina
