What Causes Pain In The Toes While Sleeping?

Within the past two to three weeks, when I m asleep, my feet in the areas of my toes begin to ache, enough of an pain to keep me awake. When I get up and walk around, the pain goes away, but when I get back in bed, it returns. I m a healthy 64 year old male, no other health issues, a long distance runner. Only medicine is a low dose of blood pressure medicine which I ve taken for several years.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

First of all it's sad to know what you had been going through lately.

Based on the history you have shared, you need to have serum uric acid levels as well as Xray of foot lateral view.

Sugar levels and Thyroid profile will also be needed. Possibility of planter fascitis needs to be ruled out.

Nerve pain suppressants like gabapentin or duloxetine can be used.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Saddiq Ulabidin, General & Family Physician
