What Causes Pain In The Tongue Along With Inflamed Little Bumps?

I have been having splotching and pain on my tongue for a couple weeks now and it just got so much worse the past few days. feels like I burned it, although I did not. I have white patches and inflamed tiny little bumps. carbonation and and spices aggravate it worse. I tried to gargle with salt water and also peroxide. provided little relief. I m not sure what has happened or how to treat it and also what kind of physician to see. thanks, Jessica O.

Hi,

As per your complain splotches and pain over the tongue along with white patches and tiny bumps seems to be due to fungal infection over the tongue leading to following symptoms. Tiny bumps seems to be due to inflammation of the tongue papillae secondary to infection.

I would suggest you to consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like microscopic examination of scraping from the lesion can help in diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly. In case of fungal infection antifungal medicines like Nystatin mouthwash, Clotrimazole lozenges and Oral medicines like Fluconazole and Itraconazole can be given. Taking plenty of probiotics like yoghurt and garlic can help. Gargle with numbing mouthwash containing Lignocaine to relieve pain. Suck ice pops. Take soft and bland diet.
