What Causes Pain In The Upper Abdomen And Black Coloured Stool?

24 yr old female with downs syndrome she has been taking synthroid for about a year. She was very obese and the meds started decreasing types of food that she would eat. At christmas she had lost 40 lbs. It has gotten to the point she is not eatting or drinking she is down 100 lbs. She has to be dehydrated she has passed out twice. So far gi dr looked at throat and upper stomach, that is where her pain is. The small amt of stool is black. She needs help any suggestions

Hello,

It could be due to minor bleeding secondary to gastritis.

As a first line management, you can take antacids like pantoprazole or omeprazole for symptomatic relief.

If symptoms persist better to consult a gastroenterologist and get evaluated.
