What Causes Pain In The Upper Abdomen On The Left Side?

Hi, I am a 36 year old female experiencing severe abdominal pain located on the left upper quadrant and also directly in the middle. This pain radiates in my chest and shoulder blade area. I have a history of extensive abdominal surgeries like inguinal hernia repair, gallbladder, C-section with 2 revisions from hemorrhaging any becoming infected with MRSA, lap hysterectomy, and most recently a year and half ago my bile duct closed off and they were going to put a stent in it but we re able to do the second and open it with the dye. I went to the doctor yesterday and got my bloodwork back, these tests were all elevated except for lipase was on the low end of the range, wbc,RBC,absolute Gran, hemoglobin, hematocrit, bilirubin. All other lab values were in normal range. I m scheduled to have abdominal ultrasound tomorrow. My other significant history is 3clotting disorders, lots of bone fractures for no apparent reason other than they tell me I have deg disc disease, osteoarthritis. I have had a inferior and superior mesenteric vein clots back in 2008and2009. My pain is so severe it takes my breath away, I have nausea and committing, fatigue, bruising. My PCP feels like this is some form of gastritis, pancreatitis, hpylori, reflux or an ulcer.also she mentioned sphincter of Oddi dysfunction. My question to you is what can an ultrasound show on the possible diagnosis she has given me and do you think she is starting out with the right test? I feel like I should have immediately been set up for mrcp because I have had these symptoms for 3 weeks that are only worsening. Also I am a nurse so I understand some of this, but I also am concerned I need a bone scan as well just because I scared myself by researching this a little and some things hinted that it could possibly be a form of bone marrow cancer. Any advice you can help with I would appreciate. Thanks

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

As a first line management, you can take analgesics like paracetamol or aceclofenac for pain relief. If symptoms persist better to consult a general surgeon and get evaluated.

You have to get an ultrasound scan for further assessment.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
