What Causes Pain In The Upper Abdomen, Sore Throat And Headache?

My 10 yr old has been experiencing some pain in her upper stomach area (below ribs), sore throat and headache. She s had a loss of appetite too. Debating whether or not to take her to the Urgent Care Center. I was thinking it could be strep but her throat doesn t look too red, plus...what s with the pain in her tummy? Allergies maybe? She gets bad seasonal allergies. We live in Central Texas (Austin, TX area)

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

1. When and how this abdominal pain started?
2. Does she have any kind of allergy?
3. Which side of the head is paining?
4. Is she taking any medicines?
5. Can you explain what kind of seasonal allergies she experienced before?

I would like to give some tests:

1. Complete Blood Tests
2. Skin Test for IgE

Meanwhile, I would like to give some treatments:

As she is a child, you have to measure the weight first before giving medicines

1. Paracetamol: 10 mg/kg orally every 6 hours as needed not to exceed 5 doses in 24 hours
2. Dicyclomine 5mg when there is abdominal pain. Maximum twice in a day.

Meanwhile, please make her follow these general guidelines:

Stay indoors as much as possible during months when you know that your hay fever symptoms will flare. Remember that pollen counts tend to be highest before 10 a.m. and after sunset, so schedule any outdoor activities for low-pollen hours. Early afternoon is usually best.

Keep windows closed, especially bedroom windows. Run an air conditioner on hot days.

When traveling in a car, keep the external vents closed and the air conditioning on. Some newer vehicles may be equipped with a high-efficiency air filtration system.

Minimize activities with heavy exposure to pollens, such as lawn mowing and leaf blowing.

Take a shower or wash your hair before going to bed at night to remove any pollen that accumulated during the day.

Dry clothes inside, either in a dryer or on a line. Clothing dried on an outside line can accumulate pollen.

Feel free to ask any further query, if you have. Post another question with the test result, then, the next course of treatment can be given to her.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
